Walk for Babies is Sept. 22 at Akron Zoo

Family-friendly event raises money for Akron Children's Hospital

The seventh annual Walk for Babies event will begin at 9 a.m. Sept. 22 at the Akron Zoo.

Walk for Babies features a one-mile walking path that begins in the parking lot and winds through the exhibits. The walk is family-friendly and proceeds benefit the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Akron Children’s Hospital.

The event also features a raffle, lunch and give-a-ways for the kids. To date, the event has raised more than $400,000, which has been used to purchase equipment in the NICU.

“It’s really a homecoming for NICU families and staff to say thank you,” said event founder, Sam Snellenberger, in a news release.

Sam and his wife, Shelby, created the event after their daughter, Amelia, spent the first 26 days of her life in Akron Children’s NICU. The Snellenbergers were so grateful for the care that Amelia received that they set a goal to raise $1 million for the NICU at Akron Children’s Hospital.
