Community Corner

Safer with Schafer

The American Bar Association’s Model Code of Judicial Conduct stresses the importance of integrity, impartiality, competence and diligence for the esteemed position of judge.  Next Tuesday, November 5th, is your chance to elect a candidate who embodies each of these qualities in both her professional and personal life.  Julie A. Schafer is running for Akron Municipal Court Judge.  This will be her first judicial position but she is well equipped to handle the responsibility.

Julie has been a private business owner, school board member, guardian ad litem, foster parent and actual parent of three children.  Hard work and ambition helped her run her own small businesses and later, complete a joint Masters/Law degree at the University of Akron.  Julie’s many years of service on the Copley-Fairlawn School Board displays how much she cares about our communities.  Her love of country and respect for our court system aids her every day in her private law practice.

But perhaps nothing has prepared Julie more for this position than being a single mother.  Any parent will tell you that raising children involves a crucial balancing act between issuing punishment and fostering encouragement.  Julie has had much practice being fair and impartial and looking at issues with an open mind.  At the same time, she remains firm and confident in her decisions.  All these characteristics will make Julie a great judge.

The campaign’s slogan is “Safer with Schafer” – safer in the sense that a vote for Julie places someone in a position that is essentially tailor-made for them.  Schafer will undoubtedly treat the bench with the respect and honor it deserves.
