Avant-Garde Show, Not Your Average Arts and Crafts Event

With the growing popularity of Pinterest, Etsy, and do-it-yourself projects, handmade goods and décor are becoming more popular each day. The annual Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show has joined in this movement with a milestone of its own. This fall, the popular area show is becoming a two-day event at St. George’s Fellowship Center at 3204 Ridgewood Road in Fairlawn on October 19- 20 from 11:00am to 5:00pm.

When you think of an art show, you may think of crocheted pot holders and small knickknacks that your grandmother would’ve found at a local basement sale. Flipping that stereotype on its head, the Avant-Garde shows feature an eclectic selection from the area’s most talented artisans and crafters. The upcoming fall show will include nearly 100 artists and crafters selling their original items. Customers can look forward to handmade jewelry and accessories, hand dipped candles, Ohio pride baby clothes, one of a kind artwork, and much more. With the holidays right around the corner, it’s not too early to start shopping.

Founded in June 2011 by Becki Cooper of Rebecca Adele PR & Events, the Avant-Garde Art & Craft Shows started out as a small show with 45 vendors and has since blossomed into ten shows a year around Northeast and Central Ohio. Each event attracts 100 vendors.

“It’s great to see how successful these art and craft shows have become, and it’s nice seeing local artists being supported for doing what they love.” says Cooper, “Including an additional day is an extra opportunity for the artists to sell their work, and also gives visitors a second opportunity to enjoy the show.”

“This show is more than just selling crafts for a profit. It’s about celebrating creativity and talent from the local area.” Said Georgi Silvia, an Akron area resident and regular art and craft show visitor. “I really enjoy the eclectic assortment of items you don’t typically see at art and craft shows.”

In addition to supporting local artists and crafters, a portion of the proceeds from this year’s 2013 Summit County Fall Avant-Garde Art & Craft Show will also benefit local animal shelter, Jade’s No Kill Rescue. Admission to the show is $3 to the public and children under 12 are free. The show will also feature a –a-carte lunch items from TLC Catering with a full bar on site.
