Artists from Summit DD Program Honored by Ohio Governor

(Tallmadge, Ohio) – The Ohio Arts Council has recently selected artwork from artists across Ohio to be displayed in Governor John Kasich’s office throughout 2014. Included in the Council’s selection are works by artists James and Marlon from County of Summit Developmental Disabilities Board’s (Summit DD) Microenterprise program. On January 23, they—along with artists across the state—will be honored at the 2014 Winter Spotlight reception in the Governor’s residence.

“The opportunity to have work displayed in the Governor’s office was open to all artists across Ohio—not just to artists with disabilities,” explained Jacquie Owens, Summit DD’s Business Innovations Manager. “Only a few artists get selected for these types of submissions, so this is an incredible honor for them,” she continued. “Overall, James and Marlon are excited to have their artwork displayed next to other artists—it spreads a powerful message about inclusion.”

James and Marlon are bringing family members and their Service and Support Administrators from Summit DD with them to the invite-only event. A tour of the Governor’s office will take place after the reception where the artists may personally see their work on display.
