Cleveland, Akron, Kent, Mantua OH - Friends of the Crooked River announce the line-up of events for the 24th Annual RiverDay to be held on Saturday, May 17th, 2014.   RiverDay aims to raise awareness among everyday citizens concerning the important role that an accessible Cuyahoga River plays in their everyday lives and to highlight the need to continue the improvement of its water quality. RiverDay 2014 will feature 30 events at 18 locations across Cuyahoga, Summit, and Portage Counties--cleanups, habitat restorations, paddle excursions, hikes, a free concert and art exhibitions. [Event descriptions are listed below.]  These events highlight the numerous recreational, cultural and historic natural resources of our American Heritage River.  Almost all events are free, although some require reservations.  A detailed list of all the RiverDay 2014 events is available at www.cuyahogariver.net/riverday.

After years of hard work by numerous individuals, organizations, communities and agencies, our river that once burned now draws people from all over the world. Opportunities abound from the headwaters in Geauga County, through Portage and Summit counties, and on to its terminus at Lake Erie in Cuyahoga County.  Parks and communities are expanding public access to the river and increasing occasions for outdoor relaxation and recreation on and near the river. This RiverDay, thousands of the watershed’s citizens will clear trash, plant native species, remove invasives, and learn history and natural science. They will celebrate our Crooked River’s recreational opportunities by canoe, kayak or bike.  They will hike view wildlife or simply enjoy the view.  The public is invited to be a part of the festivities.
