Too Close to Home

The fatal Copley shootings were too close to home for all of us...

Too close to home...

That phrase came across my mind and has come up in conversations I've had over the past 24 hours in the wake of the fatal shooting in Copley yesterday. Too close to home... Like many of the people we have come across, my wife and I decided to move to Copley because it is a safe community with great neighborhoods and a great school system.

Things like this aren't supposed to happen here. Too close to home...

My heart is breaking for the family and friends of the victims. I did not know any of them personally, but like many of you in the Copley Township area, I know many friends of the victims. My prayers go out to them. Too close to home...

Like many of you, I have asked myself dozens of questions about the shooting and have come up with zero answers. The biggest questions being “What makes someone do such a thing?” and “Why do things like this happen?” I wish I could provide answers to these questions.

In a press conference today, Copley Police Chief Mike Mier said at this point in time they don't know “why” the shootings took place. We may never know “why” this happened. Too close to home...

We can ask ourselves all these questions over and over until we are blue in the face, but “what do we do now?” is my question? What do we do in the aftermath of this tragedy? As a community, what do we do?

Things have already begun. are taking place. Victims assistance is in place. Even this morning, we received our phone call from the school system stating that guidance counselors and others will be available.

This tragedy was too close to home, but I am proud that my home is in Copley and after seeing how the people have responded, I am even more proud and encouraged that everyone will make it through.

In the aftermath of this tragedy, to make it through if you are in need, seek out the number of methods of therapy that are available. Rely on the comfort of friends. Pray, meditate, and take time to reflect. Remember those that died and pray for those that are left behind. With love and support, everyone will make it through.
