5 Fun Things to Do Outside This Weekend

Some activities if you want to get outdoors

The weather this summer hasn't been great for outdoor activities, but the forecast for this weekend looks fine.

Here are some local activities for adults, kids and families who want to get out and enjoy the fresh air:

1. Countryside Conservancy’s Farmers’ Market – 9 a.m.-noon, Howe Meadow, 4040 Riverview Road; http://cvcountryside.org.

2. Kids' Fishing — Kids 15 and under learn the basics of fishing, then drop a line at Little Turtle Pond from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 17. A few rods and reels will be available for use during the program. Bait is provided. Adults must supervise their children but are not permitted to fish.

3. Full Moon Campfire — The Summit Metro Parks invites everyone to enjoy a campfire while learning about the Sturgeon Moon. Bring a flashlight and blanket. Event is 8-10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17.

4. Butterfly Walk — Search for beautiful butterflies of the meadow at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18 at Talmadge Meadows. Nets and containers will be provided so you can try to catch and release a butterfly. Dress to protect your skin from briars, poison ivy and the sun.

5. Sunday Summer Concert — Bring a blanket or chair and enjoy the original music of Steve Madewell during this free concert at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18 on the Metro Parks' FASN/Onondaga Deck. If it rains, the concert will be moved to the covered Seneca Deck or indoors to the auditorium.
