UPS, Amazon who is next to throw their hats into the fray?

Stratys is  now partnering with UPS to allow installations in stores. Starts at two locations in California and with positive reception will be rolled out nationwide. Is this the direction the post-office should have been heading. Right now the post-office is cutting services because of inefficiencies while UPS and Fedex are booming with partnerships with Amazon. While the former pony express seems to sit stagnant with a loss of ideas. Amazon is even beginning to open options to the P.O. Box with Amazon Lockers.

When thinking a little bit ahead of the curve, what if you could have your 3-d printed item for your small business printed at UPS during the day and have it ready in your locker the next morning. As someone with an engineering background I do not understand why blue printing companies around the country are not seriously investigating adding this option to there services. They are already used to handling the complexities of 2d printing and relationships with engineering firms who would soon like to prototype in 3d. The prices are also comparable between a high volume high quality plotter and a 3d printer. It only makes sense to me.
