What Stores Should Open Here?
Ederer Real Estate wants to build a multi-tenant retail store next to Rockne's. What stores do you want in there?
Earlier this year, an abandoned building was torn down next to Rockne's on West Market Street.
An interested party has come forward and wants to build a multi-tenant retail store on the vacant lot, according to the December 2012 Planning Commission agenda.
Laura George, assistant to Mayor William Roth, said no retailers have been specifically named to occupy the building.
Todd Ederer, representative from Ederer Real Estate, said a new one-story building will match the aesthetic of Fairlawn's exisiting buildings.
"This new building is designed to be compatible with the adjacent Rockne's restaurant," Ederer wrote in a letter to the Planning Commission. "Its sleek contemporary styling with significant masonry, metal, and glass elements will set the future tone for this part of Market Street in much the same way as Summit Mall's new image. These new investments reinforce confidence in and desirability of the City of Fairlawn."
This plan has yet to be approved by Planning Commission, and the next meeting is at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 13.
So since no one has plans to move in, we want to know what stores you want to see go into the building. Or are you opposed to the building in general? Tell us in the comments.

Steve,
There is no way 2 similar and competing food stores will go into a side by side retail space. Of the two food markets you suggested I vote for Trader Joe's over Whole Foods. Because Trader Joe's would bring in more business due to their selection, quality, and pricing.

Trader Joe's grocery store. The Akron / Medina area is sorely in need of a food store of Trader Joe's caliber, variety, and quality.

I vote for something that will compliment the McDonald's that is proposed for across the street, maybe a drive up wedding chapel! Wedding and reception food all in one place.
Do we really need more retail space that will sit empty? Look how long it took to put something in next to Target! We have the stores by Target, all of Fairlawn Towne Center, the stores by Rite Aid and all of Summit Mall. Is there really a need to build more retail space? Are companies knocking down the door to get in Fairlawn? Let's fill in what sits empty before we build more.

My suggestions in no particular order. Trader Joes, Pei Wei Asian Diner, Noodles & Company, O'Charley's, Dave's Cosmic Subs, Skyline Chili, Tim Hortons, Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill, Claddagh Irish Pub, Cheesecake Factory. We need variety. Something that we don't already have. We don't need another Subway, Taco Bell or McD.

I respectfully submit that we do not need any more large chains either... how about some unique, locally-owned places that contribute more to our tax base?
