Suspected Thieves Strike Out at The Buckle
The following was obtained from Fairlawn police reports dated Feb. 2-4. It does not indicate convictions.
On Feb. 4, a security guard stopped a woman from stealing a pair of jeans at The Buckle in Summit Mall.
The thief reportedly placed the jeans into her purse, which was lined with cardboard and duct tape.
According to Fairlawn police, the criminal tool, otherwise known as a "booster bag," is used by shoplifters to slip past alarm systems without triggering them.
Officers arrived on scene, temporarily detained the woman and cited her for theft and possession of criminal tools, both first-degree misdemeanors.
A less cunning thief was reportedly arrested at The Buckle on Feb. 2 after she walked into the fitting room and walked out wearing a new pair of jeans.
She tripped the alarm system while fleeing the store and was snagged by security.
Police arrived, cited her for the attempted $158 theft and released her.
The thief also had stolen items from Victoria's Secret. All merchandise was returned to the clothing and lingerie stores.
