Senior Citizen Pulls Stun Gun on Young Mom at Wendy's

The following information was supplied by the Fairlawn Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Fairlawn senior citizen who apparently experienced “drive-through rage” at Wendy’s pulled a stun gun on a local mom whose 5-year-old daughter witnessed the event from the back seat.

The 24-year-old mom called  at 12:52 p.m. Monday to report that another patron of the West Market Street restaurant was yelling obscenities at her and had approached her with a stun gun over a misunderstanding about a place in the drive-through line.

The Fairlawn mom told police the 65-year-old retiree “became agitated” when she backed her 2007 Chevrolet Suburban out of a parking place at Wendy’s and entered the drive-through line in front of his stopped vehicle.

The woman said she thought the man was allowing her to pull in front of him but, when she did, he started to blow his vehicle’s horn and yell obscenities at her.

“He then stopped his vehicle and exited it to say additional obscenities to her and then pulled a stun gun out of his pocket. He activated it and moved toward (the victim) in a threatening manner,” the report said.

The woman said she again apologized to the man, closed her car window and called police.

When officers arrived on the scene, the man admitted pulling out his stun gun and activating it “but felt he had done so no closer than 15 feet from the victim and activated it when he was turning around,” police said.

A stun gun is a non-lethal weapon that uses a high-voltage, low-amperage electrical charge to temporarily immobilize a person through direct contact.

The man was arrested and charged with menacing, a misdemeanor, and issued a summons to appear in court. His Z-Force stun gun was taken by police for evidence.
