Patch Picks – Super Bowl Without Reservations

Last-minute spots for football fun: no plans, no problem.

It's sad but true, once again we don’t have a Dawg in this fight. However, for many of us rooting against (or for) the Pittsburgh Steelers when they meet the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XIV  on Sunday is at least a partial substitute.

Here’s a few places ‘round the Patch where you don’t need advance plans, and the atmosphere always seems like Big Game Day.

So no excuses -- head out and have some fun. And if you take pictures with your cell phone we’ll upload them in a Super Bowl Fan Photo Gallery on Monday.

Winking Lizard – 25 Ghent Rd., 44333  (330) 836-6129

Every TV will be on the game and the food is perfect pub and tailgating fare: loaded skins, nachos and wings from mild to magma are favorites. The Lizard also boasts a 250-bottle World Tour of Beers, which gives guests the chance to take a trip without leaving the bar.

On Tap Grill – 3997 Medina Rd., 44333 (330) 668-1116

If you’ve got kiddos in tow on Super Bowl Sunday, On Tap has a boisterous atmosphere that can accommodate their youthful exuberance – and according to the web site, kids eat free on Sundays (excluding drinks). There’s burgers, sandwiches and the usual appetizers, plus gyros. Televisions posted around the room and one large projection screen makes gridiron viewing easy.

Beef O’Brady’s  – 1090 Williams Reserve Blvd., 44281 (330) 336-3600

This suburban sports bar also prides itself on being kid-friendly. You can park yours in the game room (the servers don’t mind making change) and you’ll have a little time to kick back.  The menu includes O'Brady's signature large chicken wings and seriously loaded skins.

Galaxy Restaurant  – 201 Park Center Drive, 44281 (330)-334-3663

The Galaxy’s large sports bar has raised, HD screens –so no big play will be too far from your sight – plus kids seem never to tire of looking at the stars on the ceiling.  The galaxy has a broad menu of sandwiches, main courses from steak to seafood, gluten-free dishes and pasta to choose from plus a full bar. You can also try your luck at Super Bowl games and trivia for prizes awarded each quarter.
