Obama in Akron: Romney Wants You to Pay More So He Gets Big Tax Break

President Barack Obama took the stage in downtown Akron around 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.

President Barack Obama spent Wednesday afternoon in downtown Akron, making a campaign speech as part of another campaign swing through Ohio. He stopped in Mansfield before making his way downtown.

The doors at the John S. Knight Center opened at 1:30 p.m., reports the Akron Beacon Journal, and a long line of supporters lined up down High Street. The Beacon also reported that several supporters, even if they had a ticket, would have to stand.

The Plain Dealer reported Obama arrived earlier than expected and gave a speech that touched on tax cuts, education and help for the middle class.

The Plain Dealer also reported a Mitt Romney bus was circling the John S. Knight Center and a Romney campaign supporter was denied access to the event.

Obama "pushed back against the GOP attacks on a report that concluded Mitt Romney's tax proposal would cost middle class families $2,000 each," reported Politico.

"Romney, Obama declared, 'is asking you to pay more so that people like him can get a big tax cut,'" reported Newser.

I also know a lot of hard working people who barely make minimum wage...so what is your point? Doctors are treated like gods in this country, when their contribution to society is really no more valuable than a teacher, police officer, or firefighter. So why the huge difference in income? The point of your comment is actually pretty murky, so it really doesn't help to explain your opinion at all. Please clarify if you are able.

Doctors spend a majority of their working time either saving lives, or trying to improve the quality of ones life. They spend 8 years in college to learn a glut of info to best diagnose a person's illness. Then they spend another 3-6 years making peanuts while doing the same work as fully paid doctors so they can hone their skills. so yes, our society puts a premium on that over the hard working guy who takes your order at Wendy's. Go figure!

Errr ... I'm pretty sure Adam was being flippant.

As for a doctor versus your drive-thru guy, there should be a tax rate we all pay -- full stop -- whether you make $8 an hour or $80 an hour.

No one should be rich enough to buy their way into a tax shelter ... which is how it works right now. Be as rich as you want -- but you WILL pay taxes on ALL OF IT.

This is a critical time for Americans to actively participate in changing the future od this country in this upcoming election. Don't be fooled by ads and all that you see on TV. Research, learn the facts and then act by voting for the candidate you feel will help turn this country around. We shouldn't argue with each other. We need to focus on the facts and get involved.

Very wealthy people 'hide' money in other countries and pay incredibly diminished taxes on said money.

It is not illegal -- but is it ethical or moral?

The question is: Do you want a President who does such things?

When the rich don't pay their fair percentage of US taxes, we all suffer. Society suffers. Depressions are made MUCH worse than they would have been.

Remember that when you vote.

I will remember that 50% of the people in line with me pay no taxes while talking on their free phones eating their free food and living in their free apartments with free electricity and water and heat and working at their job that pays cash and if by chance they get sick or hurt at their under the table job they can get their free health care (so I do not blame the wealthy for hiding their money)

$1,014 is what Obama costs YOU per year
Gas prices have gone up and is the same as a TAX

Now 3.53
Then 1.84
Increase 1.69

Average miles per year 15,000
Average miles per gallon 25
Gas used per year 600

600 times 1.69 equals $1,014

Oh, that Obama and his magic control of the global oil wells!

Get real.

The hypocrisy of the Conservatives never fails to amaze me and the hypocrisy of blaming President Obama for rising gas prices is no exception!

Gas price under bush went to $4.21 a gallon and was over $3.00 a gallon most of his last term in office.

The only reason gas was at $1.85 when President Obama took office is because of the economic crash which greatly reduced demand and the crash effected all countries not just the US.

Gas prices rise with demand and as the economy has improved it is completely normal for gas prices to increase as more businesses use fuel for deliveries, more trucks on the road, more people traveling, and more people driving to work.

So our rising gas price is actually an indicator that the economy is recovering.

We also see a spike when the Libya UN action happened and now with Iran and Israel in a standoff an Syria effecting the region we are seeing another spike as speculators are betting on a war.

Anyone that tries to blame president Obama for higher gas prices is a fool and drilling more oil would not lower the price because we do not have a shortage and oil drilling has quadrupled in the last 4 years and the US is now a net exporter of oil.

So ignore the talking heads and fear monger Conservatives and complain all you want about higher gas prices but don't blame President Obama.

Righ on Jean! I totally agree with you. I'm sick of the rich getting slammed all the time when there are thousands of people that I pay for, through my taxes, that could and should work to support themselves and their family. They should pay taxes like the rest of us but no...they milk the system and live on welfare, and contribute nothing at all while I sweat and work hard. I'm not talking of the ones that really need the welfare. I'm talking about the ones who manipulate the system so they don't have to work. Stop blaming the rich for being successful, smart business people. Most of them started out with nothing and grew the fortune they have today. Dislike the cheaters and liars - they come from all walks of life.

On another note: I think it's hilarious that Obama flew into Mansfield Lahm Regional Airport and didn't realize it's one of the airports he's closing due to budget cuts. The 800 employees he's going to displace in that small town were not at all thrilled to see him I can tell you that much.

It's not ALL rich people or ALL poor people -- but when the super-rich don't pay their taxes, it's quite a chunk of change. We live in a society with a banking system and loose laws that allow to rich to pay less & less the richer they get -- does that make ANY sense to you? Does that seem fair? Just as bad as benefit cheats -- just with much larger effects.

And please PLEASE turn in all these benefit cheats you know so well. Seriously!

you're overlooking something: yes, the president introduced these plans (which were approved by both parties i might add) as a last ditch effort to cut spending *across the board*. and there was a super committee appointed (again, by both parties) which of course failed to agree on a better plan. they had a full year to do so (and still have several months) and haven't come up with something better. and this is all obama's fault?

look, i know it fits your mold here to say "it's one of the airports HE'S closing due to budget cuts." but it's simply not true. that's on every lawmaker in washington's shoulders (including his) for not working together on something better.

Yes, at this point in the election process. Why because they use "Likely Voters" and not "Registered Voters", a big difference. Most all polling changes to this about 4 weeks from election. Why do they use RV or registered voters. Well two reasons 1) it is a lot cheaper 2) Media bias likes the democrat slant that it gives.

Just Joe, where were you when the national debt doubled under Bush's terms? Were you just as vocal as you are now? Yes, we all know the debt continues to skyrocket. But let's take a second to ask why? Would you have preferred that when Obama came into office during the financial crisis to just start slashing government spending left and right? Do you know what that would have done to the very fragile economy??

When the private sector pulls in their spending, the government is the only entity left to try to spur growth, and therefore deficits rise. When the economy does start to pick up strength (hopefully soon), that's when the President/Congress needs to come up with a major deficit reduction plan.
