McDonald's to Build at Shiawassee Avenue & West Market Street

The land on the corner used to be a gas station.

Fairlawn's Mayor William Roth has known for at least a month who wanted to buy the vacant land at the corner of West Market Street and Shiawassee Avenue, but he couldn't go on the record.

Now it's official: McDonald's wants to buy the parcels, making it the third of its kind on the same road.

According to the Akron Beacon Journal, plans for a 4,500-square-foot building will go before Planning Commission on Nov. 8.

Roth said the land used to belong to a gas station, but it has since been remediated by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.

ABJ reports the builders expect to close the land deal in April.

Are you excited for McDonald's to build? Or were you looking forward to something else being there? Tell us in the comments!

Yeah! That's just what we need! Another fast food restaurant, with over priced grease, cholesterol, and over processed sugar! Centuries to come, if people survive, They will think Ronald McDonald was a god! Fairlawn! The Breezewood Pa. of Ohio!

Mayor Roth, you have a really nice retail circus going up in your town! Proud? I avoid Fairlawn whenever possible. Your city has become a real joke!

Really doesn't seem like a good fit. A Duncan Donuts might have been nice, but definitely do not see an up side to having McDonald's on that corner. Hope nothing has been finalized and that the plan can be scrapped in favor of something else.

What about the dry cleaners nearby there? Has there been any recent soil testing related to that? I'm concerned about disturbing soils so close to it

If they plan to access McDs along Shiawassee, will it comply with sight distances along Shiawassee given the S-curve near Abington? traffic studies from increased traffic volumes? excess sound from drive thru? hours of operation? additional light pollution from sign? any required zoning variances? Has all soil been remediated after gas station closure?

Does the planning commission take written comments from residents? seems like Fairlawn isn't thinking this one through....

The traffic pattern is already congested! A left turn from West Market on to Shiawassee only allows 2 cars in the turning lane. Left turn into PNC has room for 1 car.West bound on Market St.to turn left into Rocknes short turning lane.Think of the trash that will end up in the park. Why do we have building codes if we do not enforce them? Why was this kept a secret?
