In the wake of the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary, Dick’s Sporting Goods, one of the largest sporting goods retailers in the world, has suspended sales of certain kinds of semi-automatic rifles from its stores nationwide.
The company, which is headquartered in Moon Township, PA, also has removed all guns from its chain closest to Newtown, CT.
The move follows a decision made by Walmart, which pulled the Bushmaster gun from its website on Monday.
In a statement, Dick's said the move was made out of respect to the victims and families of Newtown. Friday’s shooting left 20 children, all between the ages of 6 and 7, and six adults dead.
Dick's maintains a store in Montrose and Walmart is located in Rosemont Commons.
“We are extremely saddened by the unspeakable tragedy that occurred last week in Newtown, CT, and our hearts go out to the victims and their families, and to the entire community,” a statement on the Dick’s website said.
CNN reports authorities are working to determine if Adam Lanza, the 20-year-old shooter who killed himself inside the elementary school once the shooting spree was over, tried to buy a gun at the Dick’s Sporting Goods in Danbury, which is about 12 miles away from Newtown.
“At this time, reports that the suspect visited one of our stores last week have not been confirmed by law enforcement," the sporting goods store said in a statement to CNN. "Based on our records, we can confirm that no firearms were sold to the suspect identified in this case."
It is unknown how long the ban on the semi-automatic rifles, also known as modern sporting rifles, will last, CNN reports.
We want to know what you think? Do you agree with Dick’s and Walmart's decisions to suspend sales of semi-automatic rifles? What about removing the guns from the store near Newtown?
Should they make the ban a permanent decision?

A Politically Correct over reaction. Obama was going after our weapons anyway, this tragedy is disgustingly being used to push his Agenda. The 2nd Amendment doesnt guarantee our Right to Hunt. It guarantees our Right be Arm ourselves for person protection including against a Tyrannical Government. More Innocent Children die in America each year due to Retro-Active Birth Control Abortions, than gun and every other means combined. Where is the outrage? Once again, Politically Correct is more 'vogue' than Morally Correct.

Once again tragedy is abused to further a political agenda. The gun is an inanimate object and is only evil when it used to perform evil. I wonder why we didnt ban diesel fuel and fertilizer after Tim Mcvey pulled his little stunt in OKC. If you all remember correctly that killed a whole lot more and some even younger. Lets stop pretending as a society we can fix the evil by banning everything. maybe we should look at where we started down this path..seems about same time as no spanking or prayer in schools. Maybe parents should start parenting again instead of letting our kids be raised by facebook.

Why did President Obama & Eric Holder ship guns ( AK 47) to Mexico? They were legally bought with our tax dollars and shipped across the border to track the drug cartels, however they forgot to track them. You have a border agent shot & now a young beauty pageant queen shot today. Why no answers or outrage?

Guns don't kill people, people kill people. If someone is crazy enough to kill someone, they will find a way to do it. Taking guns off of shelves and not selling them is not gonna change that. The bad guy will find something else to use. You are only hurting your own profits by doing this.
