Copley High School Principal Cameron Ryba has accepted the position of assistant superintendent at Strongsville City Schools and will not return for the 2012-13 school year.

According to a letter sent out by the district, Ryba said, "Although I am excited about the new challenges and opportunities this position will bring, it is difficult to leave such a wonderful school and community."

Ryba continued, "In the time we have shared together, a great deal has been accomplished, building on the excellent tradition of this school ... Throughout the transitional period this summer, I will continue to work closely with CHS staff and the new principal to ensure that a smooth start to the new school year occurs."

Ryba's resignation has not been officially accepted by the Copley-Fairlawn school board but will be in July, said Superintendent Brian Poe. Ryba has been with the district for two years.

"We wish him all the luck in the world," Poe said. "He's a terrific employee and with a promotion like that, you can't pass it up. He's going to be tough to replace."

The district has already posted a job listing online and Poe said he is confident the board will fill the position soon.

"We won't rush it because we want to find an outstanding replacement," Poe said. "We're confident we'll find the right person."

Ryba was not available for comment.
