On Dec. 8, 2011, Bath Township native and Revere High graduate Aaron Hale was injured in a bomb explosion while on tour in Afghanistan. Since then, recovery for the Army staff sergeant and his wife has been challenging.
The blast peppered Hale's body with shrapnel, broke every bone in his face, fractured his skull, tore his eardrums and caused permanent blindness.
According to the Akron Beacon Journal, Hale, 34, has undergone several surgeries that have since left him blind. His wife, Kelly, also had surgery when a doctor found a aggressive melanoma spot on her collarbone.
Read more on the Beacon Journal about how the Hale's still consider themselves lucky.
