Jimmy Bigg's Grille has been around for a while, so after driving by on probably hundreds of occasions, I decided it was time to stop in.

There's a neighborhood feel to the place, with a small bar that seats seven or eight people. Several patrons can be found having a beer and a sandwich at the bar or at a dozen or so tables in the dining areas. 

The menu features a lineup of burgers ($5.49-6.99), specialty sandwiches ($4.95-$6.95), wings and a few other old reliable bar foods ($3.95-$6.95). And salads.   

The bacon cheeseburger with french fries ($6.50) lured me in. Twice, actually, on consecutive Tuesdays. The second time, I brought it home and shared with my kids. * 

On both occasions the burgers were thick, the bacon thoroughly cooked and it tended to dominate the beef and cheese. I like bacon (who doesn't?), so there's nothing wrong with that. The cheese played a supporting role. The medium-thick fries were crispy and had the proper potato taste. To me, there is nothing worse than a soggy french fry. So these fries made the grade. 

The second time around I included onions, mayo and ketchup with the burger, a combination that somehow adds magical properties to a burger, transforming what otherwise was the same burger into a burger experience. Or maybe it was the weather. 

Nonetheless, the burgers were tasty and the fries done right each time.  

The Jimmy Bigg's spare website boasts "The Best Burgers in Summit County," which I won't comment on, given some of competition such as Menches Brothers, Swensons, and more. When it comes to burgers and fries, it's a pretty subjective judgment. They each have their fans, and justifiably so.   

The best burger? Let's save that for a panel of experts to argue over another day.  

But I think it's fair to say this burger's a contender. 

* Matt, 16, inhaled his portion after scraping off some onions and pronounced it "good." Daughter Lindsey, 12, said the burger was sweet and juicy. She thought the fries were just "OK." You could dismiss kids' tastes in what they consider good food or you could ask how many families make their choices based on what the kids like. So who gave these mooches so much power?
