Carl Raymond Douglass will be remembered as a man who was as compassionate as he was strong; he paved a road for his family and those around him so all could enjoy smoother travels. He was a man with an incredible presence, and, while intimidating at first, his bearded smile and eyebrow raise would always give him away as the ultimate gentle giant.

Carl selflessly and generously gave everything to meet the needs of all those around him without consideration for himself.  His love and passion for all animals was never-ending and this passion often drew animals of all kinds to him.  He was the driving force and a guiding light for his wonderful three sons who reflect his warm generosity, diverse creativity, and unyielding work ethic.

Carl spent the majority of his working career building and operating a heavy earthwork and construction business for over 25 years with his close friend and business partner Frank Easterling in Kent, Ohio.  He enjoyed working tirelessly  to provide opportunities for the over 180  who worked with him. In 2001 he moved to Santa Fe, NM to cultivate new opportunities.  He had many endeavors he pursued with his diverse talents and interests, ranging from metal forging for specialty parts to modular home manufacture.

We leave Carl in our memories on January 1st 2013 but carry his strength and wisdom to share with others, that of which a great man is made.

He leaves his wife, Melinda Douglass of Loveland, CO, sons, Carl III (Karen) of Willmar, MN, Sean (fiancé Karlena) of Ely, NV, and Brian of Loveland, CO, sisters Helen Ojha (Ishwer, deceased) of New York, NY, Netty Hoagland (Jack) of Cotuit, MA, brother John of Jamaica Plain, MA and many nieces and nephews.  Carl was preceded in death by his first wife Sandy (Hershey) Douglass. Carl was the first-born son of the late Carl Douglass, Sr. and Helen Wright Douglass, both of the Akron, OH area.

Carl’s presence was greater than any story about him, his stern walk and unwavering voice captivated and drew the attention of many. At times nicknamed the Grizzly Bear or Santa, Carl will be remembered as a man among men, one that will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held on March 2, 2013 at 11:00am in the Historic Chapel at Bath Unified Church of Christ, 3980 W. Bath Road, Bath, Ohio . Additional details to follow on www.carldouglassjr.com
